Our Literacy Program

It takes a thousand voices to tell a single story.   ~Native American saying

(For Kids age 3-103!) The S.M.Art Stories™ program is specifically designed to support Social, Cultural & Literacy education, as well as positive character development, through interactive Storytelling. The program is infused with props, puppets, music and improvisation, presented in an inclusive, dynamic and fun, group participation format. The Magic Suitcase is aimed at ages 4-8, and Faraway Places is designed for older children ages 9-12. There is a variety of stories & themes to choose from.

What's Your Story?

Everyone has a story-and almost everyone enjoys listening to a story, not just for entertainment, but for learning.

For this reason, all of our children's programs use stories as a vehicle for not only physical and mental health, but also for promoting literacy, for encouraging inclusion, for supporting character development, cultural  & social education.

A sensory experience can be created with words, props, music and instruments. Within these words & enhancements we travel to faraway places and meet characters & people whospeak to us on many levels.

Students are encouraged to be creative, spontaneous and add their own characters, details, solutions & endings to the stories, either orally or in their own art journals. In this way, the messages, concepts & lessons we want to send children are received loud and clear and in a non-threatening, non-judgmental manner

We hope you enjoy our Story Archive below and the accompanying activities.  Feel free to download and share these. These stories can be used with the movements or without.

If you don't know the traditional movements or postures that are listed on the story sheet, then just let the kids create them by asking: "What would my body look like if I was a_______".

Movement & action-based learning helps bring a lesson to life!
Have fun exploring people, places and imagination!
